南通职业大学创办于1973年，是一所经省政府、教育部批准设置的具有工、文、管理和艺术类的综合性全日制普通高等学校。学校坐落在“中国近代第一城”――南通，共有4个校区，校园总面积1000多亩，建筑面积30多万平方米。现有各级各类在校生16000多人，专职教师中正、副教授占30.5%，具有“双师”素质的教师占专业教师的83.2%，专职教师中博士、硕士研究生比例达到44.5%，外籍教师10人。
学校专业特色鲜明，面向市场需求和社会发展需要设置专业。设有机械工程、电子工程、化学工程、建筑工程、纺织工程、经济管理、人文科学、艺术设计、外国语等9个系和技师学院、成人教学学院、国际合作教育学院、海门学院等4个学院，35个专业（50多个专业方向）。目前有机械制造与自动化、计算机应用技术、建筑工程技术等3个省级特色专业，一个省级特色专业建设点（应用日语），一个省级品牌专业建设点（应用电子技术）。有国家精品课程2门，省级精品课程6门；国家规划教材3门，省级精品教材5门。有各类专业实训基地、实验室70多个，其中省级实训基地1个，省级基础实验示范教学中心建设点1个。学校还是教育部、建设部联合确定的建设行业技能型紧缺人才培养基地。
学校以社会评价为办学质量的衡量标准，视人才培养质量为学校的生命线，积极推进素质教育，强化实践性教学环节，教学质量不断提高。学生在全国全省的英语、计算机、数学等各类统考中，合格率、优秀率均在全省同类院校前列。在江苏国际服装节上服装设计多次获金奖、银奖，在全国、全省数学建模大赛上学校代表队多次荣获一、二等奖，连续多年获得全国电子制作大赛一等奖，其他类大赛也多次名列全省首位。学校毕业生就业率高居98%以上，连续五次被省政府授予“江苏省毕业生就业工作先进单位”。
学校多次被评为省、市文明单位和“江苏省职业教育先进集体”。2006年，学校被评定为“教育部高职高专院校人才培养工作水平评估优秀院校”。
A Brief Introduction to Nantong Vocational College
Established in 1973, Nantong Vocational College (NTVC) is a full-time accredited school for higher education approved by the Jiangsu provincial government and the Education Ministry of the People’s Republic of China. Now NTVC has developed into a comprehensive institution covering science, arts, business administration and fine arts.
NTVC is located in Nantong, which is called “The Pioneer City in Modern China”, and altogether, NTVC has four campuses, with a total area of about 70,000 square meters and 300,000 square meters of constructions. Student enrolment at NTVC is 14,000, and among the full-time teachers in NTVC, 33% are professors or associate professors, 82% have qualifications both in theory and practice, and 48% have achieved doctors or masters degrees. Furthermore, every semester, more than 10 foreign experts work in NTVC.
NTVC is a higher vocational institution with characteristics and features whereby all the majors and specialties offered are set up to meet the requirements of market and social development. There are ten departments in NTVC: Mechanical Engineering Department, Electronic Engineering Department, Chemical Engineering Department, Architectural Engineering Department, Textile Engineering Department, Economic Management Department, Department of Humanities, Department of Foreign Languages and Department of Fine Arts. Altogether, NTVC offers courses in 29 specialties and more than 50 orientations. 3 of our specialties have been nominated as characterized specialties of Jiangsu Province. The specialty of Business Japanese is nominated as a characterized specialty under continuous development, and the specialty of Applied Electronic Technology is also nominated as a band-name specialty under continuous development. NTVC is continually upgrading its courses and now NTVC has 2 national best courses and 5 provincial best courses. NTVC stresses students’ skill training on campus and off-campus with 76 laboratories and more off-campus practice bases. One of our laboratories has been named as the provincial key laboratory.
NTVC attaches great importance to the social appraisal, and regards the quality of the graduates as the resource of life. Furthermore, NTVC promotes quality education, and places great emphasis on the practice and industrial placement.
NTVC has been granted the Civil Construction Technician Professional Training Base authorization by the National Ministry of Education and the National Ministry of Construction. In the provincial tests of English, mathematics and computer, NTVC is one of the leading institutions in Jiangsu. Students have won many gold and silver medals in Jinagsu International Fashion Design Festival. NTVC has also won the first prize in national electronic appliance competition on many occasions. In the provincial and national mathematics modeling contest, NTVC team has been awarded many first and second prize over the year.
Because of the exceptional quality of our education, our graduates are warmly welcomed. Statistics shows the employment rate of our graduates is well above 98 percent every year, which contributes to the high appraisal of NTVC and the awards like “ Advanced Unit with High Employment Standing” granted by Jingsu Provincial Government for the past five consecutive years.
NTVC has also been crowned: Civilized Unit of Nantong and Jiangsu, and Advanced Unit of Provincial Vocational Education. In 2006, NTVC was appraised to be the National Excellent Higher Vocational Institution.
